The festival was born as the idea to unite people, who create original, dark art – musicians, photographers, filmmakers. It was clear that there are many people, who create such art, but in Vilnius they had no opportunity to demonstrate their works. So, Kunigunda Lunaria (in the beginning it was called "Kunigunda Lunar Fest") was born – in the first year it was something kinda little Baltic "Gotik Treffen" with clear gothic direction, but later it began to expand horizons, and now it is probably the biggest alternative music happening in Vilnius, also an outstanding festival through Baltic states and Eastern Europe.

Although each year Kunigunda Lunaria develops in many different directions, some conceptual things remain the same.

Music. Kunigunda Lunaria represents original, innovatory music from Lithuania and other countries of Europe. Musicians, who play at Kunigunda, don’t necessary have to be the big stars, much more important is the ability to express deep emotions and to create special atmosphere. Many musical styles are involved, - electronic, gothic, darkwave, industrial, neo-folk, rock/metal, ethereal, ambient, etc - the Fest is always open to all the genres – all musicians, who create interesting original music, can get the opportunity to play their music at the festival. The festival also has the tradition of presenting the artists who are long forgotten, but in their time had the big impact on the national underground scene, or the artists, who don’t longer belong to underground, but still create deep and interesting music.

Arts. Since the very first year Kunigunda Lunaria wasn’t just music happening – exhibitions, films demonstrations became integral part of the festival, and in the future such integration of different arts will become even more important. No restrictions here – there are so many forms of self expression, and all of them can find the place at the festival.

Audience and style. The aim of Kunigunda Lunaria isn’t just to present original art, but also to make the festival a real happening of the city. Each person at the festival helps to create a special atmosphere, pulsating with dark elegance. Since the very first festival it became clear, that people coming to Kunigunda Lunaria are very good in choosing original dress, in 2005 Kunigunda Lunaria for the first time presented the collection of original festival clothing, in 2006 special gothic fashion show will be demonstrated.

Festival club. Festival’s club with its special menu, dark music, DJ’s, rare films since the beginning has become important part of Kunigunda Lunaria. Here You can meet old friends and find new soulmates, here the festival begins, here it ends. During the festival, the action doesn’t stop, and You are always sure that something interesting is happening at the club, which during these days becomes the capital of all the events.

Festival venues. Vilnius, in the opinion of the organizers, is a perfect place for Kunigunda Lunaria. Exceptional architecture of the capital, mystic atmosphere creates romantic mood, and for the visitors from abroad it is very good option to explore this old town. Each year the organizers seek for the new places in the heart of the town, and one of the basic rules is that the festival doesn’t have just one place for the performances – it spreads in all the town.

Festival CD. Since the beginning of the festival special limited edition Kunigunda Lunaria sampler CD is being released. This sampler presents the bands performing at the festival, and it became the rule, that the tickets with these CD’s are sold very quickly. The samplers of the first festivals already have become a rarity, sought after by the collectors.

The spirit of the festival. Probably not the music or other arts are the most important at the festival. It’s the spirit of the festival which attracts to this dark party, its atmosphere is extravagant and exciting. It is the festival where all Your senses are released, and You can use all Your flair and fascination. It is witchery spring carnival, the time, when underground world of Vilnius awakes. It is our time.
